Vey is 28 years old, and he has come a long way. He was lucky enough to accomplish elementary, secondary and high school. During the weekdays he teaches classes at 2 different private schools, and on the weekends he is pursuing his studies at Cambodia University of Specialties in Siem Reap. While this would seem more than enough for most of us, Vey has a different plan. Every evening, when he gets back from his job, he teaches English to the children in his village for 3 more hours.

Chub Jum Village only being 45km away from Siem Reap, which harbors Angkor Wat temple and attracts numerous tourists to Cambodia every year, English skills could make a big difference in the children’s lives and open new gates to potential jobs in the tourism industry, securing an income for them and their families, and help them shape a different future.

“Vey is aware of the benefits English skills could have for the children in his village and believes that they deserve a future with possibilities. Therefore Vey has been teaching 3 classes, 5 days a week under the pillars of his house to an average of 30 students for more than 2 years without getting paid a single dollar. When we first heard about Vey’s story we were deeply moved. But we also wanted to provide him with the right environment to continue his teaching and thought he ought to be compensated for his work. The result is Vey’s Village School.”
